Lab Reports

Lab Reports are a large component of the IPS Science curriculum. For each of the chapters we cover this year, we will reaffirm the material through at least on lab activity. You are responsible for writing up reports on these activities. All of these write-ups will incorporate standard scientific method. You will prove your understanding of this material using a variety of methods. They are outlined below.

Standard Lab Report Write Up
This type of write-up will be a typed report following the guidelines discussed in class.  Format for this type of report will be:
  • Title
  • Purpose
  • Procedure (step by step)
  • Materials (list is fine)
  • Data/Observations (observations should be in bullets, data should be displayed appropriately)
  • Analysis (full sentences)
  • Conclusion (1-2 sentences summing up your findings)
Methodology Timeline
You will prove your understanding of a lab by creating a timeline using the web application timetoast.  Each step in your methodology must be placed on your timeline appropriately. Pictures and videos can be added as necessary. The final post of your timeline must include a brief explanation of your findings.

Voicethread
You will use the voicethread tool to express verbally what you accomplished in the lab.  Think of this approach as a short "summary" that you might share with a classmate who was absent when the lab was completed (hint: a good way to make sure you are covering your bases is to have someone who is not in this class listen to your thread then ask them if they understand what went on....)

Data Analysis
For this type of assignment you will complete a lab and then add your collected data to a google doc of class data.  Once this document is complete you will use the group data to come up with your conclusions of the lab.  Specific number analysis is critical in this type of assessment.
